Clara Doty Bates 
On the Tree Top 

‘On the Tree Top’ is a collection of nursery rhymes and fairy tales written in a poetic form by the 19th-century American author Clara Doty Bates. Although Bates and her husband never had children, she was a dedicated writer of juvenile literature, knowing how to engage younger audiences. Her poems are sensitive and lyric, often compared with those of Heine. Yet, they are cheerful and easy to read, proving the author was an incredible talent.
