Horace Greeley (1811–1872) was an American newspaper editor and founder of the influential newspaper, The New York Tribune. Born in Amherst, New Hampshire, Greeley moved to New York City and became a prominent figure in the journalism sphere. His literary contributions are often associated with his reformist and political ideologies. Greeley was known for advocating social reforms such as workers” rights, vegetarianism, and the abolition of slavery. In 1851, he authored “Glances at Europe, ” a collection of letters documenting his observations from a trip to Europe a year earlier.
