Susanne Höbel übersetzt seit dreißig Jahren belletristische und essayistische Werke aus dem Englischen. Zu den von ihr übersetzten Autoren gehören William Faulkner, Nadine Gordimer, John Updike, Graham Swift, Janet Lewis, Vita Sackville-West und Amor Towles. Von 2007 bis 2013 war sie Präsidentin des Freundeskreises zur Förderung literarischer und wissenschaftlicher Übersetzungen. Sie war Mitglied im Organisationsteam der Jahrestagung der Übersetzer in Wolfenbüttel und hat zudem acht Jahre lang das Lesefest der Jahrestagung mitgestaltet. Seit 2009 ist sie Jury-Mitglied in der Heinrich Maria Ledig-Rowohlt Stiftung, die jährlich drei Übersetzerpreise verleiht. Susanne Höbel lebt in Lewes, East Sussex.
