Four Generations under One Roof, Luotuo Xiangzi, Beneath the Red Banner, Teahouse. Four Generations Under One Roof is divided into three parts, Apprehensive, Stealing Life, and Famine, with nearly a million words. It is the longest of Lao She”s works, and also the one with the longest writing time, the most energy, and the most difficult completion process. The work is based on the occupied area of Peking during the War of Resistance Against Japan, and takes the life of the four generations of the Qi family as the main line. It vividly depicts the humiliating, tortured and miserable lives of all classes and people of all colors represented by the residents of Xiaoyangquan Hutong, and finally gradually awakened and resisted. It praised their precious national integrity and the Chinese nation”s unyielding will to fight and the determination to resist the Japanese War. Luotuo Xiangzi tells the tragic story of a rickshaw man Xiangzi in the old city of Beiping in China. The profound realism of this novel is that it not only describes the harsh living environment of Xiangzi”s material deprivation, but also portrays Xiangzi”s spiritual degeneration after the destruction of his ideals of life. Beneath the Red Banner is the posthumous work of Lao She”s unfinished autobiographical novel. The manuscript consists of eleven chapters and 164 pages. On August 24, 1966, Lao She sank in Taiping Lake, Beijing. This work and his life came to an abrupt end. Lao She is a banner man and belongs to the "Zhenghongqi" of the "Manchurian Eight Banners", which is also the origin of the title of the book. From the time Lao She was born, it was the last year of the Qing Dynasty when the society was turbulent and people”s livelihood was withered. Seeing the decline of the Qing Dynasty, the pampered Baqi people are also struggling…With the rise of the Boxers and the arrival of foreigners, the peaceful life of the people in Beijing was broken. The characters come to life in Lao She”s writings: the honest father, the kind and upright treasurer of the king, the bitter and mean aunt, the clever and capable brother Fuhai, the arrogant pastor Niu…These people of the Qing Dynasty, who were in the turbulent historical torrent, all moved towards different destinies…Teahouse shows the social changes in the past half a century during the three periods of the Reform Movement of 1898, the melee of warlords, and the eve of the founding of New China. Through a teahouse, it reveals the dark, corrupt, bizarre and eccentric Chinese society in the past half a century, as well as the many people in the society. Nearly 50 people appeared on the stage, with distinctive personalities. The dismal management of "Yutai Teahouse" through the owner Wang Lifa reflects the trend of Chinese society from the side.
