Amid the turbulence of 1940s war-torn Europe nobody is safe. A young man who had long dreamt of becoming a pilot leaves London and joins the RAF. This story follows his life as a navigator, his brushes with death and his part in dangerous SOE missions. Shot-down in his Halifax over occupied France, a farming family and the Resistance help him escape along the Comet Line and home to England. Years later he returns to the French countryside to find the family who gave him hope and shelter and Brigitte, his wartime sweetheart, only to learn of the terror that had befallen that quiet village and makes a discovery that changes his life.
