Mark Hodkinson, geb. in Manchester, aufgewachsen in Rochdale, lebt heute als Musik- und Sportjournalist sowie Buchautor in West Yorkshire. Er war Gitarrist in mehreren Bands, die unter anderem The Stone Roses, Pulp und The Wedding Present auf Tournee begleiteten. Zudem schrieb er über zehn Jahre (davon drei als Kolumnist) für die Times und den Observer, und verfasste mehrere Musik- und Sportbücher. Sein letztes, „Believe in the Sign“, über seine Anhängerschaft des unterklassigen Fußballclubs Rochdale AFC war eines der Sportbücher des Jahres der Times und des Guardian und stand auf der Longlist für den William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award. Der renommierte Dramatiker und Drehbuchautor Alan Plater arbeitet derzeit an einer Drehbuchfassung zur Verfilmung von „Believe in the Sign“.
