Deng Shiru (1743-1805), originally named Yan, with the word Shiru, to avoid the taboo of Emperor Jiaqing, and later changed the word to Wan Bo, called Wan Bai Shan Ren, and was born in Huaining, Anhui. He was born as a commoner, but became the third peak of seal script after the "Two Li" (Li Si, Li Yangbing). Daming Temple in Yangzhou, the famous monk Jianzhen of the Tang Dynasty passed on the scriptures and ordination here before going east to Japan. The temple is famous all over the world. The east corridor of Qingkong Pavilion on the east side of Daming Temple is inscribed with Deng Shiru”s seal script Heart Sutra inscriptions. The inscription is superb, majestic and dense. It is the treasure of domestic seal script and is the masterpiece of Deng Shiru”s seal script.
