Anna Freud, geboren 1895 in Wien, gestorben 1982 in London, erhielt ihre psychoanalytische Ausbildung in Wien. 1935–1938 war sie Direktorin des dortigen Psychoanalytischen Instituts. In jenem Jahr emigrierte sie nach London, wo sie von 1940 bis 1945 die von ihr gegründeten Hampstead Nurseries leitete. Ab 1952 war sie Direktorin der Hampstead Child-Therapy Clinic sowie des Hampstead Child-Therapy Course, der wichtigsten europäischen Ausbildungsstätte auf dem Gebiet der Psychoanalyse des Kindes.
