This is Han Han»s first work of magic realism, a novel full of satires. Seven young people, namely Da Mai, Wang Zhi, Wan Heping, Shi Shan, Hong Zhong, Mi I, and Lou Ti, voluntarily gave up their assignment opportunity after graduation from university. They did not want to enter foreign enterprises or become white-collar workers. Instead, they learned from the ancient seven sages of the bamboo grove. They came to the mountainous village called Hepingfenghuang. They volunteered to teach in the village primary school. At the same time, they realized their ideals with their own expertise. They studied guns and explosives, built houses and planted vegetables. They also took in a singer called "psychopath", Hai Lei, an escort called Cereal, an elderly botany researcher, Liu Xiaoli, and his two-legged dog. These seemingly abnormal people built a strange world of their own and experienced many strange things. The story seems absurd but full of thinking. As the story went on, they look for the future in their own world.
