It tells the story of a New England man, John, who fell in love with a woman that he describes as having ‘a delicate little fairy form’, and bores the name of Lillie. However, her real countenance is less that of a fairy godmother and more that of an evil witch—and poor John only discovered this after the two has entered into marriage.
