Practicing physicians in this era were treated as omnipotent, creating a godlike complex allowing some of them to take it upon themselves to choose which babies, when born, should live or die. Selectively placing babies with visible flaws in boxes with medical tape over their mouths to silence their cries, than ordering nurses to place those boxes in a closet until…death.
