A type of disease that affects the lungs and other parts of the respiratory system. Respiratory diseases may be caused byinfection, by smoking tobacco, or by breathing in secondhand tobacco smoke, radon, asbestos, or other forms of airpollution. The diseases of upper respiratory tract, i.e. nose, throat, tonsils, larynx and ears, as well as diseases of lowerrespiratory tract which includes air passages and lungs, and their treatment has been described.
