A Special Calf

Vali is a true story about a baby calf who was weak and hungry. He was found on an icy piece of ground at the farm on Valentine’s Day-hence, the name Vali. This little calf was near death. The story tells about how the fanner’s wife loved him, fed him, and nurtured him back to health. Vali weighs 1, 200 pounds today. No one believed that he would survive. The fanner’s wife and Vali never gave up and he lived.

Jan Hundley is a professional nurse and psychotherapist in private practice. She works with children, adolescents, and families. During her career, Mrs. Hundley has used bibliotherapy with young people to help them understand life and death events, stressors, and family dysfunction.

The author has written some of her own true stories about farm animals to use in therapy. She has also published Grownups Have Problems Too and A Llama that Swims.
