Our Backyard Zoo is about the delightful antics of the animals on the farm where Pat grew up, and of the little wild creatures which come to feast in the Darnell’s back yard. It was written for the readers’ enjoyment and with the hope they will find their own pleasure watching and learning about the little domestic and wild animals, birds and even insects that touch all our lives.

Pat Pine Darnell was born in South Arkansas and lived in Hot Springs area as a teenager, where she now lives with her husband, Daniel, and two little Dachshund dogs. Pat is a classically trained concert pianist, church organist and choir director, and was the contralto with a small opera company for several years. Though retired from teaching and performing now, Pat stays active musically by playing jazz arrangements for the vibraphone and writing hymn transcriptions for piano. Her hobby is archiving her family’s history through creating artistic scrapbooks. Pat has two books to her credit: BOOM! is about the wildest ever oil discovery in South Arkansas during the Roaring Twenties. All Dressed Up is the story of her life growing up in a cult, and the trauma of escaping it. She also has a set of children’s stories on CDs. Our Backyard Zoo is about all the delightful antics of the wild creatures which come to feast in the Darnell’s back yard, written for the readers’ enjoyment and with the hope find their own pleasure with the little animals and birds.
