August Strindberg (1849-1912) was a prolific Swedish novelist, essayist, and one of the world’s most important dramatists. He wrote nearly 100 works throughout his lengthy career. Constantly experimenting with new methods and techniques, he developed innovative ways to portray life on the stage. His Red Room (1879) is considered the first modern Swedish novel.
