Essential Questions for Empowering Black Leadership in the Multiethnic Church

There is an ongoing narrative that has often been taken as truth in the Body of Christ: “Black people will follow a White pastor but White people will never follow a Black pastor.” This book acknowledges the history from which this narrative came while looking to push a new narrative where the whole Body of Christ can benefit from the gift of Black leadership. Many books have asked, ‘How do we see diversity in the pews?’ But this book looks to see diversity in the pulpits and leadership rooms of these churches.

About the author

Brian Taylor: Brian’s life was radically changed as a student-athlete at Vanderbilt University. He served as a campus missionary and as a youth pastor for several years in Nashville, TN and Orlando, FL before starting Every Nation Cincinnati Church in Cincinnati, OH. He and his wife Chavonne, planted a multiethnic church in the uptown area of Cincinnati and also teaches with Every Nation Seminary. He received his doctorate from Asbury Theological Seminary and has served with other pastors and leaders in catalyzing a multiethnic movement in Ohio and beyond. He and Chavonne have three children Elijah, Saniya, and Joshua.
Dr. Christopher Johnson, Sr. is the founder and lead pastor of Divine Unity Community Church in Harrisonburg, VA. He often encourages others to ‘be the work, before you do the work” – demonstrating the importance of cultivating one’s character, authenticity, substance and humility. Dr. Chris carries the unique mantle of leading a multi-ethnic, multicultural, and multi-generational ministry; and holds a great passion to see revived lives actively glorifying God. Hand in hand with his wife, Cherelle and along with their three children, Chloe, Chris Jr. aka Chip, and Caleb, they serve their church, community, and God faithfully.
