Maria Konstantaki, PhD, is Senior Lecturer in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition in the Department of Advanced Health Sciences at Buckinghamshire New University, UK. Maria is a BASES Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She has worked with a range of individuals and groups including athletes, recreational exercisers and physically active older people, offering physiological testing support and nutritional advice. Her primary research interests include physical activity and ageing, physiology of swimming, and nutritional supplements. Her publications include „Effectiveness of commercial versus homemade sports drinks on exercise capacity and hydration status during intermittent, high intensity exercise“ (2015; American Journal of Sports Science and Medicine), Effect of physical activity on emotions and mood states of 50–65 year old male and female participants (2012; ATINER) and Dry-land ergometry in physiological assessment of swimmers: practical applications and training recommendations (2010; Lambert Academic Publishing). She is also section editor of the Athens Journal of Sport.
