This 1897 Gothic horror novel by Irish author Bram Stoker is famous for introducing us to the ominous vampire Count Dracula. Young English solicitor Jonathan Harker finds himself at the center of a series of horrifying incidents during a business trip to Count Dracula’s castle in Transylvania where he is attacked by three phantom women, observes the Count’s transformation from human to bat form, and discovers puncture wounds on his own neck that seem to have been made by teeth. Escaping from Dracula’s grim fortress and returning home he is confronted with a friend’s strange illness involving sleepwalking, inexplicable blood loss and mysterious throat wounds. Abraham Stoker was an Irish author, best known today for his 1897 Gothic horror novel Dracula. During his lifetime, he was better known as the personal assistant of actor Sir Henry Irving and business manager of the Lyceum Theatre, which Irving owned.
