Bear Me Away to a Better World tells the story of two intensely creative people who meet in the 1950s, bond, and form a partnership that touches many lives.

Fifty years later, at their beloved Villa Zanetta, a performing arts center in California’s Sonoma Valley, someone is (presumably) murdered, but someone else is secretly loved, while another is disgraced, and yet another finds solutions.

We find Hector sowing seeds in the Villa Garden, and Marcus discovering new artistic vistas, while Martha grieves a loss and Kendra hopes for a future.

Circling the periphery of Villa Zanetta and its cast of colorful creatives are Hayne Williams and Diesel Edwards, the ‘duo’ in the subtitle, who make discoveries of their own and hold it all together with the power of art, ideas and music.

In today’s confounding universe,  Bear Me Away to a Better World wraps its arms around you to give you sweet joy and dear hope.

About the author

David Gordon was deeply involved in the development and creation of Bear Me Away to a Better World. He served as a reality check, advisor, a source of background information, a provider of show-biz color and details, and a constant and faithful supporter of the author. After conservatory training in Montreal and Chicago, David made his operatic debut with the Lyric Opera of Chicago in 1973. In the following decades he forged a distinguished international career as opera and concert tenor, voice teacher, lecturer, and author. David has appeared as tenor soloist with virtually every major North American symphony orchestra, and with other prestigious orchestras and music festivals on four continents. His classical repertoire spans eight centuries of music and eight languages.’ A virtuoso singer and actor, ‘ (Salzburg Nachrichten), David has portrayed 60 principal roles on the stages of the Chicago Lyric Opera; San Francisco Opera; Houston Grand Opera; Metropolitan Opera; Washington National Opera; Hamburg Staatsoper (Germany), and other companies in North America, Europe, and Japan.David’s classical discography includes eight centuries of music on CDs for RCA Red Seal, Decca, London, Telarc, Naxos, Delos, and Vox. The music of J.S. Bach has a special place in David’s career as singer, lecturer, and author. The Chicago Tribune described him as ‘one of the world’s great Bach tenors, ‘ and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch called him ‘One of the greatest interpreters of the Evangelist of our time.’ He has sung Bach’s music in hundreds of concerts in North and South America, Europe, and Japan. David’s fascination with Bach and daily life in historical times led him to write The Little Bach Book, his eclectic and unique study of the everyday world in Bach’s time.
