Ihr Debütroman „Verhängnis“ war auf Anhieb ein internationaler Bestseller und wurde in insgesamt 26 Sprachen übersetzt. Die aufwendige Verfilmung von Louis Malle mit Juliette Binoche und Jeremy Irons in den Hauptrollen kam 1993 in die Kinos. Josephine Hart verstarb 2011. Im Aufbau Verlag sind ihre Romane „Verhängnis“ und „Sünde“ verfügbar.
