The Turn Of The Screw is one of the most important novellas of Henry James, and also a work that embodies his superb artistic charm of novellas. On Christmas Eve, some friends sat around the fire and they felt so bored that they decided to tell ghost stories they had heard. One of them told a story about a governess in the suburbs who was haunted by a ghost. When she suspected that the former schoolmistress was controlling the two children on the farm for some evil purpose, everyone thought she was mad, but the children kept it a secret.
