She has subsequently become famous as a children’s author, writing numerous books under the pseudonym of ‘Susan Coolidge’. Woolsey is best known for her classic children’s novel What Katy Did (published in 1872), which follows the adventures of a small American girl, Katy Carr, who lives in the fictional lakeside Ohio town of Burnet. Woolsey also wrote numerous short stories, poems, and a plethora of children’s novels (48 poems and 37 books in total).
