William Hickling Prescott, a Harvard graduate, was blinded in one eye during a food fight. Although the following year he temporarily lost sight in his other eye while abroad, he never lost his vision for chronicling the Spanish empire. His History of the Conquest of Mexico and History of the Conquest of Peru are both available through Barnes & Noble World Digital Library.
