Christa Schuenke, geboren 1948 in Weimar, studierte Englisch und Französisch in Leipzig und absolvierte ein Philosophiestudium in Berlin. Sie ist seit 1978 als literarische Übersetzerin aus dem Englischen und Amerikanischen aktiv. Einen Namen machte sie sich vor allem mit Klassikerübertragungen, darunter William Shakespeare, John Donne, Herman Melville, John Keats oder Edgar Allan Poe. Dafür wurde sie u.a. mit dem Christoph-Martin-Wieland-Preis und dem Übersetzerpreis der Kunststiftung NRW ausgezeichnet. Christa Schuenke lebt in Berlin.
