Donald Pfaff (Rochester, Nueva York) se graduó en Harvard College y obtuvo su doctorado en el Instituto Tecnológico de Massachusetts. Desde entonces se ha dedicado al estudio del cerebro como regulador de la conducta. Ha escrito o editado más de veinte libros y lleva a cabo su trabajo de laboratorio sobre el funcionamiento del cerebro en la Universidad Rockefeller, en Nueva York. Es miembro, desde 1992, de la American Academy of Arts & Sciences y, desde 1994, de la National Academy of Sciences.
