Marlitt, achieved a remarkable degree of literary fame during her lifetime, particularly in light of the fact that she suffered from a condition that rendered her deaf and she was largely self-supporting from a young age. At the Councillor’s is an engaging romance novel translated from the German by the skilled linguist Annis Lee Wister.
