Edgar Wallace, born Richard Horatio Edgar Wallace on April 1, 1875, in Greenwich, London, was an astoundingly prolific writer, whose literary career spanned across the early 20th century. Despite having had very little formal education, Wallace’s natural knack for storytelling and journalism afforded him great success as a novelist and as a war correspondent during the Second Boer War. His early experience in the military and as a reporter for the ‚Daily Mail‘ laid down the rich soil from which his literary career sprouted. Wallace’s writing style is characterized by fast-paced narratives and a focus on suspense and plot twists, showcasing his ability to draw readers into his fictional worlds. A shining example of his craft can be seen in the novel ‚The Man at the Carlton‘ which exemplifies Wallace’s talent for blending intrigue with action, as he delves into the world of crime and espionage.
