Friedrich Waismann, geb. 1896 in Wien, war Mathematiker, Physiker und Philosoph. Er war Mitglied des Wiener Kreises und Vertreter des Logischen Positivismus. Im Jahre 1938 emigrierte er nach Großbritannien. Zuletzt war er Dozent für die Philosophie der Mathematik in Oxford, wo er 1959 verstarb.
