Isabella Bird, Entdeckerin, Schriftstellerin, Fotografin, wurde 1831 in der englischen Grafschaft Yorkshire geboren. Die Tochter eines Pastors hat schon früh Reisen als Heilmittel für ihre angeschlagene Gesundheit entdeckt. Sie führten sie nach Japan, Tibet, Persien, Kurdistan und in die USA. Sie veröffentlichte acht Bücher. „A Lady“s Life in the Rocky Mountains“ erschien 1879 bei John Murray in New York und London und wurde sofort zum Bestseller – heute zählt das Buch zu den Klassikern unter den Reiseberichten. Isabella Bird wurde 1892 als erste Frau in die Royal Geographical Society aufgenommen. Klaudia Ruschkowski, geboren 1959 in Dortmund, lebt in Volterra, Italien und in Berlin. Sie ist Dramaturgin, Autorin, Kuratorin und Übersetzerin. Sie übersetzte aus dem Italienischen und Englischen, zuletzt Etel Adnan, Guiseppe Zigaina und Vincenco Latronico. Susanne Gretter, studierte Anglistik, Romanistik und Politische Wissenschaft in Tübingen und Berlin. Sie lebt und arbeitet als Verlagslektorin in Berlin. Sie ist Herausgeberin der Reihe „Die kühne Reisende“.
