Josephine Tey (1896–1952) was a pseudonym for Elizabeth Mac Kintosh, a Scottish author best known for her mystery novels. Throughout her life, Tey was a private individual, but her literary work continues to speak volumes. She was educated at Inverness Royal Academy and the Anstey Physical Training College, Birmingham. Before becoming a full-time writer, Tey worked as a physical training instructor. Her writing career began under the pseudonym Gordon Daviot, under which she wrote plays and novels.
