Lyon Sprague de Camp (1907-2000) fue un autor estadunidense de ciencia ficción y fantasía, así como ingeniero de aeronáutica como variante profesión. Durante la segunda Guerra Mundial fue investigador en el Philadelphia Naval Yard junto con Isaac Asimov y Robert A. Heinlein. En 1979 fue nombrado Grand Master por la Science Fiction Writers of America y en 1984 recibió el World Fantasy Award por el trabajo de toda una vida. Su fama entre los lectores sería el resultado de la serie El aprendiz de mago, sus reescrituras del Conan de Robert E. Howard y su biografía de Lovecraft.
