Malcolm Pasley, geboren 1926 in Rajkot (Indien), studierte in Oxford, wo er dann als Fellow und Tutor am Magdalen College Germanistik lehrte. Mitbegründer der Zeitschrift ›Oxford German Studies‹, hat er neben zahlreichen Veröffentlichungen zu Kafka u.a. die Bände ›Germany: A Companion to German Studies‹ (2. rev. Ausgabe 1981) und ›Nietzsche: Imagery and Thought‹ (1978) herausgegeben. 1986 wurde ihm von der Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen die Ehrendoktorwürde Dr. phil. h.c. verliehen. Pasley war Mitglied der Deutschen Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung und Fellow of the British Academy. Er starb 2004 in Oxford.
