Niccolò di Bernardo dei Machiavelli (1469-1527) was an Italian Renaissance author, philosopher, historian and diplomat best known for his political treatise ‚The Prince, ‚ and the satirical play ‚The Mandrake.‘ Often referred to as the father of political philosophy, Machiavelli was born to a wealthy family and received a classical education. Once he entered public life, he served as a senior official in the Florentine Republic and in his spare time began publishing various plays, songs and poetry.
