Stephen Turnbull is Lecturer on Japanese Religion at Leeds University and also holds the post of Visiting Professor of Japanese Studies at Akita International University in Japan. He has two MAs (in Military History and in Theology) and a PhD for his work on Japanese religion. His seventy published books include „The Samurai: A Military History“, „Samurai: The World of the Warrior“ and „The Revenge of the 47 Ronin, Edo 1703“. He acted as Historical Advisor for Universal Pictures for the 2012 movie „47 Ronin“, starring Keanu Reeves.
