Susanna Rowson (1762–1824) was an acclaimed writer and educator born in England but raised in the U.S. Her family returned to London in 1778 where she worked as a governess before publishing her first novel, Victoria. Rowson produced many more titles including her biggest success Charlotte: A Tale of Truth, also known as Charlotte Temple. Aside from literature, Rowson was an accomplished stage actor who performed and wrote many plays.
