Common Sense (slow reading series, "one of the 88 books that shaped America") 

Common Sense, written during the North American War of Independence, openly proposed that the United States should exist independently of Britain. In this pamphlet, Paine discusses the origin and purpose of government, exposes the disadvantages of monarchy and hereditary system, and puts forward his own views on the development form of North America at that time and the conditions for the independence of North America. His ideas greatly impacted the deeply rooted monarchy concept at that time. The publication of Common Sense, full of passion and wisdom, soon became a guiding textbook for the general public during the war, and played an important role in the promotion of modern political civilization.
