William Parsons, a third-generation lawyer and veteran trial lawyer, is a native of Huntington, West Virginia. He received his doctor of jurisprudence degree from West Virginia University in 1976. Since then, he practiced law in West Virginia, surrounding states, and Washington, D.C. He is licensed to practice in all courts in West Virginia, the United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Concentrating on medical-legal cases during most years in the practice, Parsons has successfully served as plaintiff’s counsel in medical negligence cases, including cases in the medical fields of obstetrics, pediatrics, infectious disease, neurosurgery, emergency medicine, orthopedics, family medicine, otolaryngology, hematology, nursing home, and hospital negligence. He also has argued many cases before appellate courts, state, and federal, resulting in a variety of published written judicial opinions. He is the past president of the West Virginia Trial Lawyers Association (now known as the West Virginia Association for Justice), voted that organization’s Member of the Year (1990–1991), and a principal in various law firms, the last being Hartley, O’Brien, Parsons & Thompson in Wheeling, West Virginia. Parsons is an FAA certificated pilot and holds an instrument rating. He is the father of two sons, has four grandsons, and is married to Donna Crow, also an attorney. He currently resides in Wheeling, West Virginia. Preferential Treatment is his first novel.
