J. M. Barrie
The Little White Bird; Or, Adventures in Kensington Gardens

Soporte
‘The Little White Bird; Or, Adventures in Kensington Gardens’ is a novel by the Scottish writer J. M. Barrie, ranging in tone from fantasy and whimsy to social comedy with dark, aggressive undertones. It is written as a series of short episodes, including both accounts of the narrator’s day-to-day activities in contemporary London and fanciful tales set in Kensington Gardens and elsewhere. David, a young boy looks up to the narrator, referred to as ‘Captain W__’ and serves as the go between him and David’s mother, as they endure a tense relationship. Captain W__ is at first reluctant to be a mentor to the boy, but eventually he warms up to the boy and his mother. The book also became famous because it was the earliest introduction of the character and mythology of Peter Pan, the famed magical boy who escaped from being human as an infant, and ever since flies about and cavorts with fairies.
