Set during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush, London’s story is a tale of survival and a return to primitivism. The setting is allegorical. The southern lands represent the soft materialistic world, while the northern lands symbolize a world beyond civilization and are inherently competitive. A masterpiece of literature.
