Marie Campbell was born in Ballachulish, Argyllshire in 1934. When she was divorced after 25 years of marriage, and after her five children grew up and married, she worked in hotels; she had a snack van in Glencoe, selling hamburgers, then worked at Sullen Voe in the Shetlands at the oil terminal. She returned to school at 40, obtaining English O-level with General Studies. She now travels over Europe; having recently visited Egypt and Kenya. Apart from gardening, her big love is writing. Whispering Sea is her third historical novel. First Novel – «The Crows Are Crying» – Bridget Ryan with her young sister Elizabeth heard the cries of their mother dying in childbirth. Their broken-hearted father, unable to cope with them, sent them to a Convent to be raised by Nuns. There Bridget»s life was made difficult as a result of the severe disciple imposed by one of the nuns. Eventually the sisters were fostered out to the Island of Fada in the Hebrides. When they became teenagers, Elizabeth went with a family to America and Bridget went to find work in the mainland. Young and innocent, she had many trials. This is a heart-warming story that conjures up the magic of a Hebridean island in a bygone age at the turn of the century, and follows the heroine»s adventures and trials on the mainland, in Glasgow and a farm, before returning to the island where her destiny unfolds in a surprise ending. Second Novel – «Tansy» -`Dr Brown called a meeting. «I would like some volunteers to go into the woods with me. We would of course have to take all sorts of precautions. We will cover ourselves with masks and gloves and some old clothes. We will leave a change of clothes at the edge of the woods and throw away the old ones so that we won»t bring the plague back to the village.»» While this novel recreates the terrifying times of the plague and the great fire of London, the chief interest centres around the affectionate, vulnerable yet resourceful young woman, Tansy, who brings alive the past era with disarming humanity. The fair-haired, blue-eyed heiress, cheated out of her inheritance, nevertheless wins the hearts of the common people and the heir of a Scottish estate.
