20 Years Experience of China’s Policy and Practice

This book reviews the policies and actions taken by Chinese Government, international organizations and NGOs in the past two decades, and aims to reflect and share the experiences and lessons regarding the promotion of girls’ education, gender equality in media, and sexuality health education and services for youth with the international community.China’s experience in the field of women and girls’ education and development has not been adequately summarized and shared. To fill the gap and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 4th World Conference on Women, this book seeks to systematically summarize and disseminate the strategies and good practices regarding women and girls’ education and development in China, so as to present national experiences which can be shared by the international community in the promotion of rural women’s empowerment and gender equality.The features related to this book are as follows: adoption of gender and development perspective; integration of macro development context and typical case studies; reflection from multidisciplinary approaches; contribution to international concerns and dialogue; and co-authored by a powerful team of local and international experts. It is the first occasion on which a powerful team of Chinese and international authoritative experts and scholars in gender study have gathered to systematically summarize and disseminate China’s experience in rural women’s and girls’ education and development.This book is published in association with UNESCO International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education.
