Gioconda Belli, geboren in Managua / Nicaragua, beteiligte sich ab 1970 am Widerstand der Sandinisten gegen die Diktatur in ihrem Land und ging 1975 ins Exil nach Mexiko. Seit ihr 1988 mit « Bewohnte Frau » der internationale Durchbruch als Schriftstellerin gelang, hat sie mit zahlreichen Romanen, Gedichtbänden und ihrer Autobiographie ein millionenfach gelesenes Werk geschaffen. Nach mehreren Jahren in den USA lebt sie heute wieder in Nicaragua.
