Kyung-Sook Shin geboren 1963, ist verheiratet und wohnt in Pyeongchang-dong, einem Teil von Seoul. Ihre Mutter lebt immer noch in Chongup, einem Dorf im Südwesten der koreanischen Halbinsel, in dem Haus, in dem Shin geboren wurde. In Korea ist Shin eine Autorin mit einem Millionenpublikum. Mit diesem Roman gelang ihr der internationale Durchbruch. Auch in den USA, England, Italien und Spanien erobert sie mittlerweile die Bestsellerlisten. 2012 wurde Shin für “Als Mutter verschwand” mit dem Man Asian Literary Prize ausgezeichnet.
