Emmanuel Philibert, duc de Savoie sans territoires, est le commandant en chef des troupes de Charles Quint en Artois. Il est entouré de son fidèle écuyer Scianca-Fero d’une force redoutable et de son page Léone sensible et frêle auquel il semble tendrement attaché. Il faut dire que Léone est en fait une jeune fille, Léona, qui a dû changer d’identité pour survivre aux ennemis de son père. Le comte de Waldeck ayant commis des actes de pillage, Emmanuel Philibert se voit contraint de le tuer, s’attirant ainsi la haine de son fils

Alexandre Dumas, père (French for ‘father’, akin to Senior in English), born Dumas Davy de la Pailleterie, was a French writer, best known for his numerous historical novels of high adventure which have made him one of the most widely read French authors in the world. Many of his novels, including The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers, The Man in the Iron Mask, and The Vicomte de Bragelonne were serialized. Dumas also wrote plays and magazine articles, and was a prolific correspondent.
