Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The Making of Religion is author Andrew Lang’s examination of how various groups throughout history arrived at the idea of God. Lang’s book argues that divine intervention may be necessary for humans to approach the recognition of an all-powerful god, and he uses psychological, anthropological, and historical research to present his argument.

The first section of the book examines phenomena that were unexplainable at the time, and thus lead certain peoples to begin constructing the concept of a higher power. Lang also examines miracles, and how these unexplained events led people to belief in God.

The latter portion of the book tackles the history of the development of the idea of God. Lang examines how the idea of God evolved throughout different societies, ultimately arguing that man’s primitive logic leads him to seek for a cause or maker of things.

Lang’s book is not always politically correct, and some of the classifications of ethnic groups as low savages may offend some readers.
