William Hope Hodgson (1877-1918) was a prolific author of novels, short stories, and poetry. He wrote across several genres including horror, fantasy, and science fiction. Hodgson drew from his experiences as an officer in the a Merchant Marine, a renowned bodybuilder, and a photographer to weave imaginative, wholly original tales that have inspired generations of writers from H. P. Lovecraft to Terry Pratchett. The House on the Borderland (1908) is widely considered his greatest work.
