Adriana, a blogger and educator, was embarrassed when she got lost in Madrid during the first two days of her study abroad program. She immediately wanted to book a flight home, but couldn’t as she was a first-generation student with no extra money. Yet, that moment defined her life’s journey. She discovered a new perspective to life: humility and global citizenry. Blown away by the rewarding experience, she devoted her personal and professional development to connecting purposefully to each and every country and city. She recognized that many first-time, underrepresented college students are not aware of the resources or opportunities afforded to them through study abroad. This guide will help change that.

Adriana K. Smith, born in Miami, FL, sought to see the world through her classroom. After dreaming of one day attaining fluency in Spanish, she studied abroad in Spain. Hoping to complete her dream, she immediately became flustered with traveling after getting lost in Madrid. Luckily, getting lost opened her mind to the world of travel and sparked her wanderlust. She is now an educator and blogger in South Carolina, where she advises college students to follow in her footsteps. Well, kind of. Not the getting lost part, but the path to seeing the world.
