David Herbert Lawrence, typically known as D. H. Lawrence (1885-1930), was a profoundly influential English writer, poet, playwright, essayist, and literary critic. Lawrence was born in the small mining town of Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, to a struggling coal miner father and a mother who had aspirations to escape the decay of the industrializing world through her children.
