Consultor (y cofundador) del Nielsen Norman Group, en su larga trayectoria académica, galardonada por las Universidades de Delft y Padua, ha centrado sus investigaciones en la psicología cognitiva, la usabilidad de los objetos y el diseño emocional, áreas sobre las que ha publicado numerosos libros, como Memory and Attention: An Introduction to Human Information Processing (1969), Things That Make Us Smart (1993), The Invisible Computer (1998), Emotional Design (2004) y Living With Complexity (2010).
