Han Shaogong 
South to the Mountains and North to the Waters 

This collection of works includes major works of Han Shaogong, accounting for about 70% to 80% of the total published works. Taking the opportunity of publishing the collection, the author revised some of the works. The situations involved can be roughly divided into three types: The first situation is restoration. Since the late 1970s, there has been a process of gradual relaxation in the standard of publication censorship in mainland China. At the beginning, the author”s autonomy was not sufficient. Sometimes, especially in the early days of literature unfreezing, some newspaper editors often forced the author to make big amendments or even directly made amendments for the author out of some scruples-excluding occasional cutting happening when there was not enough space on the page. Various deletions of the works in publication were not made according to the author”s will. In today”s view, they are more of historical regrets and deserve restoration to their original editions as far as possible. The second situation is explanation. With the rapid changes in China”s real life, the public context is changed more frequently and easily. Some common expressions used ten to twenty years ago, such as "Four Kinds of People", "Production Team", "Commune", "Work Point" and "Family Background", are now puzzling to many people. If some informal names in a certain period, such as "Cellular Phone" and "Dacron", are kept, they will also cause reading difficulties for later generations. In order to facilitate intergenerational communication, the author made appropriate changes to some outdated terms or added some explanatory words on the premise of retaining the original text. The third situation is patchy.
